The Life of Elijah

Elijah was one of the most important figures in the Bible. He was a man of great faith who performed many miracles. Elijah was also a powerful prophet who spoke out against wickedness and evil.

Elijah’s story is told in the Bible, in the book of 1 Kings. Elijah was born into a poor family. He grew up to be a shepherd, but he was called by God to be a prophet.

As a prophet, Elijah confronted the wicked king Ahab. He also spoke out against the evil queen Jezebel. Elijah performed many miracles, including bringing fire down from heaven and raising a dead boy back to life.

Elijah was finally taken up into heaven in a whirlwind. Before he ascended, he passed his mantle to Elisha.

Elijah in the Bible:

“Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.” (James 5:17)

“And Elijah the Tishbite, from among the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, ‘As the Lord, the God of Israel lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.'” (1 Kings 17:1)

“Then Elijah said to all the people, ‘Come near me.’ They came near him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been torn down.” (1 Kings 18:30)

“And Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water; the waters divided to the left and right, and he crossed over.” (2 Kings 2:14)

“Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.” (2 Kings 2:11)

“So Elisha said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountaintop in the presence of the Lord.’ And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire a sound of gentle stillness.” (1 Kings 19:11-12)

“And Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.’ And Elisha said, ‘Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.'” (2 Kings 2:9)

“Then he was carried up into heaven in a whirlwind, and Elijah went with him.” (2 Kings 2:1)
