The Life of King David

King David was one of the most important figures in Jewish history. He was the second king of Israel, and he ruled for 40 years. David was a great warrior, a talented musician, and a wise ruler. His story is told in the Bible, in the books of Samuel and 1 Kings.

David was born in Bethlehem around 1000 BC. He was the youngest of eight brothers, and his father Jesse was a shepherd. When David was a young man, he fought and killed a giant Philistine warrior named Goliath. This victory made him famous, and he became a close friend and advisor to King Saul.

Saul became jealous of David’s success

However, Saul became jealous of David’s success, and he tried to kill him on several occasions. David eventually fled from Saul and went into hiding.

While he was in hiding, David married a woman named Michal. Saul’s daughter. Saul died soon after, and David became the King of Israel.

As king, David conquered many lands and expanded the kingdom of Israel. He also built a great capital city, Jerusalem. The city of Jerusalem is still the capital of Israel today.
