In today’s reading from the book of Mark, we see how Jesus healings bring hope to those who are suffering.

This is a powerful reminder that no matter what we are going through in life, God is always with us and He can help us heal.

“Mark 6:53-56 53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat. 54 When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized Jesus, 55 and ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.”

“56 And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.”

One day as Jesus was preaching on a lake shore and large crowds pressed in on him to hear the word of God, he noticed two boats parked nearby.

The fishermen had left their boats to listen to him preach. 58 Climbing into one of them (Jesus’ disciple Peter was at the helm), Jesus asked Peter to row out a short distance from shore. Then he sat down and continued teaching as the crowd listened intently from shore. 59

As he spoke he made several references in his teaching to fishing: “And now you caught 5 me! 60 But when you throw out your net next time, putrefreshing water into it instead of salt water!” 61 At this point happy and amazed, Peter exclaimed to Jesus, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night long and caught nothing!

Yet just by saying a word you have made us fishers of men!” 62 After breakfasting together with the disciples on some breadand fish, Jesus instructed them,” Get into your boat and go back across the lake ahead of me.”
