The Life of Jacob

Jacob was the son of Isaac and Rebekah, and he was the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a man of great faith, and he is an important figure in the Bible because he shows us that God can use anyone to achieve His purposes. No matter our background or our abilities, God can use us to do great things.

Jacob in the Bible:

“And now your two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, who were born to you in Egypt before I came to you, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.” (Genesis 48:5)

“But Jacob said to Joseph, ‘No, my son, for the LORD has given me enough.’ And Joseph insisted no more.” (Genesis 50:21)

“So Jacob blessed each of Joseph’s sons and said, ‘The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,'” (Genesis 48:15)

“‘May he also give you the blessing of the heavens above, the bountiful dew from the depths below, and may he give you abundant grain and new wine. May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be those who curse you, and blessed be those who bless you.'” (Genesis 27:28-29)

“For you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.” (Genesis 28:14)

“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.'” (Genesis 28:15)

“Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.'” (Genesis 28:16)

“How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.” (Genesis 28:17)

“So he called that place Bethel. The name of the city was derived from the Hebrew word for ‘house of God.'” (Genesis 35:15)

“And God said to him, ‘I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a company of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.'” (Genesis 12:2-3)

“Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” (Genesis 15:6)

“The LORD had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.'” (Genesis 12:1-3)
